You’ve got a skin glitch you want gone - or at least diminished. Where do you go for help? Well, it depends on the severity of the problem. Obviously, if you suspect skin cancer, you need to take yourself straight to a dermatologist. But for something that is more looks-threatening than life threatening, you’ve got choices. You can opt for over-the-counter treatments, help from a professional skin-care therapist, or a visit to your dermatologist.
Over-the-counter care
Pharmacies, chain drug stores, beauty emporiums, and department store cosmetic counters are great for the do-it-yourselves. These places offer a range of treatment products (at a range of prices) that allow you to address your problem privately, conveniently, and relatively inexpensively. The downside to this? It’s easy to either get swayed by the grand claims you read on a box of skin-care cream or get confused by a product’s ingredient list. To avoid getting taken - and to ensure you find a product that works - you must do a bit of research not only on your condition, but also on product ingredients. You need to know what ingredients your skin finds irritating and avoid purchasing a product that contains these.
Be aware that these “mass-market” items are designed to be used without professional supervision by an enormous cross-section of people. To avoid causing reactions in some of these people, manufacturers formulate their products with low concentrations of active ingredients.
You spent a good deal of cash on a cream that said it could banish freckles, and after using the whole jar, your freckles haven’t lightened a bit. What to do? Contact the company that made the product and complain.
What is an aesthetican?
Aestheticians are most often found at skin-care salons, day spas, and even in dermatologists’ offices. They give a wide range of facial treatments for a wide range of problems, from mild to moderate acne, to light wrinkling, to melasma; what they cannot do is perform surgery, work with lasers, prescribe medication, or diagnose. dangerous skin ailments, such as cancer. A good aesthetician will tell you to visit you dermatologist if he or she spots something suspicious on your face. Think of an aesthetician as a skin-care partner. Most likely you will be visiting your aesthetician weekly, twice-monthly, or monthly until your problem is controlled. After that, you will go less frequently for follow-up and maintenance visits.
Many aestheticians and dermatologists use a Wood’s lamp to view a patient’s sun damage. The lamp projects a long wavelength of blue light deeper into the skin than visible light; sun damage shows up as dark, mottled areas.
Visiting an aesthetidan
If you decide to work with an aesthetician, a plan of specific cleansers, creams, sunscreens, and other regimens designed to treat your skin may be recommended. Aestheticians rely on professional treatment lines that are available for use only under an aesthetician’s supervision. These professional products generally contain moderate levels of active ingredients; you may experience better or faster results from them than from over-the-counter products. The downside to aestheticians? The visits and products can get expensive.
Don’t be shy when visiting an aesthetician or dermatologist. To help him or her choose the safest, most effective treatment plan for you must speak up about your lifestyle and your health. Don’t forget to mention allergies, reproductive plans, current medication, and even how many glasses of alcohol you drink in a week.
Get thee to a doctor!
A dermatologist is your only option if you suspect something serious, such as skin cancer, something appears abruptly, such as a rash, or you suffer from a particularly stubborn or severe case of something, such as cystic acne. But your visits don’t have to be limited to these reasons - dermatologists treat minor skin-care gripes as well. In fact, because dermatologists are doctors, they can prescribe strong prescription medication that contains high levels of active ingredients. This means fast results and the benefit of someone monitoring you against any allergies or reactions.
Dermatologists can also perform cutting-edge procedures, such as laser, botox, and collagen, that you can’t get anywhere else. Before choosing this option, however, you should consider that while some insurance plans do cover dermatology visits and prescription costs for “cosmetic issues” such as melasma, freckles, sun damage, and wrinkles, most do not.

A strong bone structure gives a face a certain presence and definition. If you have prominent cheekbones and a confident jaw line, it doesn’t matter how close-set your eyes, how bulbous your nose, or how lopsided your lips, you’re still going to turn heads. Yes, I developed that theory myself, but only after looking at hundreds of strongboned beauties (many of them models) whose other features were average, asymmetrical, or unusual. I, unfortunately, wasn’t blessed with prominent bones. I rely on blush to draw attention to my cheeks. If you must do the same, keep reading.
Cheeky color
I have sallow skin, which is one reason I like cheek color: it makes your skin look vibrant. But perhaps what I like best about cheek color is how a hint of pink on my cheekbones, on my chin, and at the temples makes it appear as if I actually had some kind of bone structure!
Cheek color comes in several forms. The most common types are blush and rouge. Blush is a colored powder you brush on with a makeup brush, and rouge is a cream - usually packaged in a small pot - that is applied with your fingers or a makeup sponge. Other forms of cheek color are translucent gel (packaged in a tube); swivel-up cheek color sticks; and liquid cheek color, which looks like colored water and creates a budge-proof translucent stain on your skin.
What type of cheek color should you use? The drier your skin, the creamier your makeup should be - rouge and swivel-up cheek color sticks are great for dry complexions. Gel and liquid cheek color are terriftc for normal skin. Brush-on blush - which can be used successfully on all skin types - is a must for oily skin, and will help reduce shine on the complexion.
Achieving effects with highlighting cream
Highlighting cream - also called highlighter - is a makeup-bag extra, something that’s nice to have but not necessary. This pale, slightly pearlescent cream catches the light, making a feature appear more prominent. When I use highlighting cream - usually for a night out - I pat a minute amount under my brow bone, on the tops of my cheekbones, and on my jawbone. The result is not at all obvious, but very, very pretty.
Highlighting cream is available in shades with a pink, peach, silver, pale yellow, gold, or copper undertone. It is most often packaged in a small pot, but you can find it in swivel-up sticks, as powder, with a wand applicator, or as a liquid. If you like, you can use a pure white coverup stick as a kind of makeshift highlighter - you won’t get the light-catching gleam of a highlighter, but the pale color can make features look more prominent.
Using bronzer
Bronzer is used to give skin a tanned look - and it is a much safer option than sunbathing. Its color is a close approximation to bronze, such as deep tan, red-brown, or golden tan. I am not a big bronzer user, but I have friends who love the sun-splashed glow it gives cheeks, temples, chins, and other areas. Bronzer looks like blush and is applied in exactly the same way. It is available in powder, cream, gel, and bead forms
Contouring secrets
During the 1970s, contouring was popular - at that time, nearly all powder blushes were accompanied by a deep shade that was meant to be applied to the hollow of the cheeks. While light colors bring features forward, dark colors make features recede, therefore a bit of contour could slim chubby cheeks, as well as soften the look of a there double chin or make the sides of a person’s nose look slimmer. Outside of a few swivel up contour sticks, I haven’t seen many contouring products on the market lately. That doesn’t mean, however, that contouring doesn t exist. Many makeup artists simply use a darker-than-skin shade of foundation or coverup as a face contour. The secret to natural-looking contour is to use a product that is only one or two shades darker than the skin and to apply it with a light hand.
Glitter - either packaged loose in pots or suspended in transparent gel - is a trendy and fun way to draw attention to cheekbones, eyelids, browbones, or lips. Just be sure to use it very sparingly.

Believe it or not, body piercing is really not anything new. Some people seem to think that it is a new trend, when in reality it has been around for many years. Body piercing actually traces all the way back to ancient times; in fact, a mummy has been found in a glacier from several thousand years ago. So, this really is nothing new, but something that has been going on for many years.
Back in Bible Times
Yes, body piercing is actually mentioned in the Bible, which is a very interesting fact. Many people would not expect this to be a topic of discussion in the Bible, but it is mentioned very clearly in the book of Genesis. In this section, Isaac gave his wife Rebekah nose jewelry as a gift. So, you’ll also find that it goes all the way back to Old Testament Bible days as well.
Piercing in Various cultures
Of course piercing has been around in various cultures for many years. Many historians seem to believe that Roman soldiers often had piercings. Also, a variety of other cultures have use piercings as well. Some of them include African cultures, the Aztecs, Middle Eastern Cultures, and even Mesoamericans. Even in Europe piercing, especially of the ears, became very popular in the 16th century as well.
The Hippy Movement
While there was some time where body piercing began to die out, once the hippy movement came about in the 60’s, piercings began to come back again and it again became popular. During this time many people began to start the trend again, although it would not get as popular as it is today until pop icons and bands began to get piercings as well.
Influence of Bands
It was really the influence of bands that made body piercing take off. Many bands and popular musicians began to get piercings such as belly button piercings and eyebrow piercings, and it was something that brought about the popularity today. Today you will find that piercing is extremely popular and there are many great jewelry choices today that have never been seen before as well.

Cosmetic surgery is very popular. Tens of thousands surgeries are performed each and every year. Rhinoplasty, liposuction, face lifts are just a few of them. Not all surgeries are successful. Often plastic surgery is performed by surgeons who are not qualified enough for the job.
It is not required that a physician has a special education to do cosmetic surgery. There are weekend seminars where you can ‘learn’ how to do liposuction and other cosmetic procedures. On Monday this doctor could make a surgery he never did before.
Just recently I saw a report in television where a dentist performed a liposuction on a 40 year old woman. This dentist was already known for his bad plastic surgery results. His work was horrible. But he is still in business. The authorities do not do anything against it.
When a surgery goes wrong then usually because of errors in the surgical process. A bad surgery can cause asymmetry, nerve damage, tightness, loss of sensation, deformation, paralysis and more. If you are lucky and enough tissue is left, a good surgeon might be able to reverse some of the damage. But even bigger is often the psychological damage for the patient which can last for the rest of your life.
To avoid bad cosmetic surgery it is absolutely mandatory that you screen your doctor carefully. Never ever choose a surgeon that has less than one year experience. Ask the doctor for testimonials which you can verify. Ask when and where he had his education and training for cosmetic surgery techniques.
Do not rely on his words only, you need proof. Do not forget that cosmetic surgery is a highly profitable business. There are even people offering these surgeries who are not even physicians.

Let’s face it, there is nothing sexier than a warm summer night. It’s time to throw on that little black dress and sandals, and look effortlessly chic. In the summer, less is more, and that goes for make-up too. Heavy make-up is like an anorak, who needs it in June?!
To simplify your beauty routine, consider products that can do double duty. Bronzers are an excellent choice for creating warmth to the complexion, and often you can use them in place of a blush. The way to do this is by changing the way you apply it. Instead of applying to the apples of the cheeks as many of us do with our blush, apply to along the cheekbone, staying slightly underneath. This creates a contour effect ~ think slimming!
For evening glow that is gorgeous by candlelight, illuminator is your best friend! The easiest to use illuminators are mineral based, as they contain micro-micas instead of glitter. Apply this to the tops of the cheekbones, collarbones and decollete.
Become a bronze goddess! Look for molten metal eyeshadow and liners in bronze, gold and silver shades. These harmonize beautifully with summer skin and are a snap to apply.
Switch from heavy lipstick to a gloss. Clear gloss enhances the natural lip colour and makes lips look fuller and hydrated. Sometimes there is nothing sexier than what we come by honestly, so go natural!
If you only have time for one product, let it be black mascara. This is a beaded hemline on a dress, a sexy black ankle strap! There is nothing that will get your eyes to stand out more than two coats of mascara. Look for formulas that lengthen and volumize to maximize the fringe factor.
Now get glowing! Get out there and be the sexy summer starlet you’ve waited all winter to reveal!

Your hair is one of your greatest accessories, but getting to look vibrant and healthy is often a struggle. To achieve this however you do not have to spend a small fortune in a salon; you just want to look like you did. Following and implementing a few basic tricks will get you well on your way to the beautiful shiny full looking locks you are after.
The easiest and yet most ignored tip is; keep your hair trimmed. Even if you are going through the tedious pains of trying to grow your hair out you should still be getting a trim every six weeks. Once you have your locks at the desired length continue to get a trim every eight weeks. Regularly trimming your hair helps prevent split ends and also makes your hair easier to manage and style. Easier styling means less fussing with damaging products and styling tools.
If you continue to have problems with split ends even though you are keeping your hair trimmed then it is probably lacking moisture and protein. If this is a constant issue for you try a silicone based product to help protect your hair shaft. Another way to combat split ends is, before using irons use a thermal protector to help seal in the moisture.
In addition when you are moisturizing your hair ensure that you are massaging your conditioner into your scalp. This action will not only put the conditioner where it needs to be to reach the hair root but also stimulates the scalp by promoting blood flow to the area. Massaging the scalp when washing and conditioning your hair assists hair health on the cellular level of the hair root where hair germination and growth takes place. The blood is responsible for carrying the nutrients to the hair root that are necessary for the growth of healthy hair. These nutrients are also necessary to ensure that the gland responsible for natural oil production are being fed. Stimulating the scalp helps to prevent hair loss and thinning.
Always use a high quality hair brush to avoid mechanical damage and promote hair health. A boar bristle brush is the ultimate in hair brushes, and yes they are more expensive to purchase but the good news is they last years and with the benefits to your hair they quickly pay for themselves. Boar bristle brushes have soft and flexible bristles which distribute the natural oils through your hair.
If you do not want to put out the cash for a boar bristle brush a nylon or plastic vent brush is a good choice. Ensure that you inspect and replace the brush as needed as damage to the tips of the bristles or missing bobbles will cause mechanical damage by tearing the hair shaft.
Last but not least; showering in hot water in no a good choice if you are concerned about the health of you hair. This is especially important if you have problems with oily hair; heat stimulates the scalp into producing oil. Also a cool rinse will help close the cuticle making it much easier to brush when you get out.
You do not have to spend a great deal of money to make your hair healthy and vibrant, it just takes a few small actions that any one can easily implement.

Normally, the appearance of our under eye area is the true test to see if we’re resting enough. If we’re healthy, the area under the eyes is not discolored, but blends into the rest of our facial skin. But, if we’ve been losing sleep and not eating right, we get those ugly dark circles and bags under our eyes. Sometimes genetics plays a part, as well, and we’ve inherited dark circles from our parents. Whatever the cause, who wants to look tired and unhealthy?
There are many creams out there that claim to get rid of dark circles, but do they really work? What is the main ingredient that wipes away the years off our faces? One active ingredient is Haloxyl which aids in reducing and preventing dark circles. But one of the best and most effective ingredients is Dithiolane 3 - Pentanoic Acid, otherwise known as D3PA.
This D3PA has so many helpful qualities like increasing the healthy blood circulation to your skin for that glowing look, being a tremendous anti-oxidant, as well as helping to reduce puffiness in the skin and help eliminate dark patches or circles. Make sure there is enough of this dramatic ingredient to make a difference. Some companies just put a pinch of an ingredient in (just enough to get it on the ingredient’s list), but it’s not effective without the proper amount to make a difference.
LifeCell is one all-in-one cream that uses the correct amounts of ingredients, so that you’re happy with the results that they claim you will see. They even have a money back guarantee to back up their claims.
So, if you’re tired of those unsightly triple bags and dark circles under your eyes, check out the ingredients list to see if what you’re using now or about to purchase can really do what stand the test of time. If you’re like me, you don’t want to waste any money or your precious time with a bunch of fake claims. Check out LifeCell for a product that truly is a life changing experience!

The question of ones appearance ultimately depends upon whether one is looking inwards or outwards. It concerns self-perception and our perceptions of the world around us. Our self-perception is partly expressed in how we appear.
When I was younger I spent a certain amount of time looking inwards and so was concerned about my appearance. I remember being affected by peer pressure and the constant bombardment of advertising agencies to look a certain way. Though I didn’t follow fashion I wore make-up and almost became anorexic. My world revolved around me because I was the center of all that existed, or so I thought.
As I grew in years and wisdom I realized that I’m only a tiny part of humanity and the universe, thus clothing and beauty products are unimportant in the grand scheme of things.
I still have my own style and it hasn’t altered much over the years because it suits me, My clothing is comfortable and boyish because I like to be at ease and have a boyish figure. I don’t wear make-up because when I go out the important thing is to be clean, both inside and out. I’m more confident without it because I’m being myself and am unconcerned about attracting people. They’re attracted to my personality regardless because I’m at ease with being me.
A more profound reason to be less concerned with my appearance is this: I’m aware that people in the world are starving and suffering, so how could I justify spending money on cosmetics? Clothes are being made by people who are forced to live in poverty, so how could I, in good conscience, not wear the clothes I have for as long as possible before buying new ones?
It’s time we rearranged our priorities. We’re destroying our planet and people are suffering because we don’t do enough to help. I suggest that we all free ourselves from the pressures of society to spend so much money on clothing and beauty products and do more to contribute to ongoing life on our planet.
For instance do we require the synthetic smell of perfume? As long as we’re clean our natural scent is far more alluring to the opposite sex. I’ve had compliments from males saying that I smell good and the aroma is simply me! Instead of moisturizing products eat plenty of coconut oil, which moisturizes from within and causes a younger looking appearance. Exercise, get fresh air and sunshine. We’re being programmed into thinking we need to spend money to look good, not so!
I’ll conclude by saying that in my opinion people are happier when they’re looking outwards and that too much time spent thinking of ourselves is negative because however much the appearance is pampered the desire to improve it is never satiated. Whereas I’m finished, complete and as I’m meant to look so I’m free to live life as I am.

Using herbal breast enhancement, many woman claim, allows the body to naturally increase breast size. Women who have tried herbal breast enhancements have reported that their breast size has increased by up to two full cup sizes. 100% Herbal and all natural, this breast enhancement program will increase your breast size, naturally and safely, while adding firmness and fullness. Users of herbal enhancements have claimed that their breast size has increased by up to two full cup sizes. Do not take the herbal enhancement supplement with beverages that are carbonated or contain caffeine.
Have you ever wondered if what you know about herbal breast enlargement is accurate? Consider the following paragraphs and compare what you know to the latest info on herbal breast enlargement.
Women are often not happy with their breast size. Usually they would like larger breasts. Women are increasingly turning to breast implant surgery and other alternatives, such as herbal breast enlargement.
Herbal breast enlargement uses a variety of herbs to stimulate growth. Though all are different, there are several commonly used herbs. Herbal breast enlargement can utilize pills, creams, or liquids. Some companies even offer a spray. The herbs used in the different forms vary, but generally include Saw Palmetto, Damiana, Dong Quai, Blessed Thistle, Wild Yam, and Fennel Seed.
Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there’s more to herbal breast enlargement than you may have first thought.
A common misconception about natural breast enhancement is that it will only take weeks or a few months to gain results such as 1-2 cup sizes. This quite simply, is not the case most often since most women who do see success in naturally increasing their breast size do not see considerable results for anywhere from 6-12 months. Also, it is important that the right product is chosen. Some women may respond to one product or method, while other women may not respond at all. Since everyone’s body and chemical makeup is so diverse, it is nearly impossible to guarantee one single product will work the same on everyone.
With natural breast enhancement through pills or creams, this offers a woman a gradual feeling of breast growth, every morning waking up feeling more and more voluptuous. We have had reports that this has sent a surge into relationships! Men love to rub the creams on their wives and girlfriends breasts knowing that they are in a small way rubbing them to become bigger and fuller! It’s like rubbing the genie bottle and getting their biggest wish! Can you imagine what that does to a relationship? Most importantly, this safer alternative to surgery, allows women to have control over what is happening to their body.

While blow drying your hair with hair dryer should not be a daily activity, blowing out your hair for the weekend is a great way to get the look you want. The most common use of hair drying is getting volume into a hairstyle. Please keep these style tips in mind to make the hair dry easier at home in your daily life:
Have your tools ready, there’s nothing like starting up the drier only to realize that your brush is in another room. For great volume, make sure that you use the straight nozzle on your hair dryer, a round brush and some protective serum.
Sit down: A great way to organize yourself is actually sitting down in front of the mirror. This way you can place the hair dryer down on the vanity while you brush sections of your hair. If you don’t have a vanity, using a chair is fine, but make sure not to warm up your legs too much!
Get drying! For volume, take large sections of your hair and brush them up away from your head while you point the hair dryer at your roots. Drying your roots before the rest of your hair will give you more lift.
Avoid brushing too much: While you do have a brush in your hand to help give more volume to your do, don’t brush out all of the strands. Brushing makes hair flat and will undo all of the work of putting lift into your hair.

The most popular beauty product world over, is lipstick. Form the corner
store to the largest cosmetic counter you are sure to find lipsticks
available. There is wide variety of brands, colors, textures and finishes to
create those much sought after lush, beautiful lips.
You can find lipsticks in traditional tubes, pots, pencils, and even wands
with innovative designs emerging daily. While color selection is a
personal choice, current fashion trends also play a big part in influencing
a woman choice of lipstick.
To create that perfect pair of lips you should start by lining with a
neutral colored pencil following your natural lip line. Using a lip brush fill
in with lip color of your choice. Use your lip brush to blend the two so
that there are no harsh edges.
The secret of creating the picture-perfect lips lies in the choice of color
and correct application.
Tips
- If you are not fortunate to have full lips, wear the lightest, frostiest lipsticks youcan find. They will cause your lips to look fuller. Follow with lipgloss.
- You should use a Vitamin E Lip Protector before application of any type oflipstick. It moisturizes and nourishes the lips preventing dryness and cracking.
- To create your own smudge-resistant lipstick blot your lips with one sheet of twoplytissue. Reapply lipstick and blot again. This will absorb the oils in the product
and leave the pigment and matte waxes.
- If you are over 40 we advise that you should avoid wearing matte lipsticks. Youwill look best with a little shine on your lips. Always use a lip liner since it builds
a dam that keeps the lipstick from ‘bleeding’.
- To remove lipstick from clothing, apply glycerine on the spot, rub lightly andwash as normal.
Lipstick, long the favorite of many women, is now getting some toughcompetition from its counterpart lip gloss.
Tips
- Apply lip gloss over lipstick or alone. Remember that gloss would emphasize andtherefore make your lips appear to be fuller.
- Women with extra-full lips, should use lip gloss very sparingly.

Trying to find the right eye shadow color to enhance the color of your eyes? Here are the best shades of eye shadow for your eye color.
Blue Eyes
For blue eyes you want to use colors with brown undertones. Lighter colors do a great job of bringing out the color. Avoid the use of using blue or purple shades. Using a darker shade then your eye color makes your eyes appear very blue. The best color for blue eyes is a warm brown, taupe, a soft peach color, or pink. You can also use a black color and mix it with a bright blue to get a smoky effect.
Green Eyes
When you have green eyes you want to use colors with red undertones. Colors that are darker and more dramatic tend to look the best. There are a lot of brown tones that work well with green eyes. Try chocolate tones, dark greens, apricots, and taupes. Deep purples also look very beautiful with green eyes. All these colors are in the same greenish family and do a great job of brightening the green in your eyes.
Brown Eyes
Earthy tones seem to look the best with this eye color. Brown, Pink, blue, and gold tones look great against the richness of brown eyes. Brown is the eye color that has the most flexibility as far as eye shadow colors. You can use a Neutral color for a natural day look, or go a shade darker then your eye color to create a sultry, sexy look.

At its simplest, laser hair removal is the process of using a laser - a high-intensity ray of light - to target hair roots, causing the hair to be lost and in time preventing regrowth.
The pigment in the hair follicle is the target of the laser used, and for this reason this procedure is less effective when white, gray or extremely blonde. However, there are modern treatments that can be used for nearly all hair and skin combinations.
Active hair follicles are the most susceptible to the lasers used in the therapy. These are the follicles that are actively growing new hairs at the time you have your treatment, and this is why you will need to have a number of sessions, so that follicles that were dormant during early sessions get caught on the second or third treatments.
This is why the time span of the treatments are so important - most people will need at least three sessions, and you should ensure that you follow your doctor or beauty therapists schedule closely to get the best results.
Laser hair removal treatment are probably the most effective way of eradicating or at least managing undesirable growth, but it is important to realize that no removal process is perfect. The method is unlikely to remove all your hair in the treatment area permanently - most people have some regrowth within a year - but the good news is that hairs that do grow back are likely to be paler and less robust, and will also respond more quickly and effectively to repeat the removal treatments.
Are there any dangers associated with laser removal?
Laser hair removal can be safely used on all body parts, including legs, back, stomach and even the delicate skin of the bikini line and the face.
Lasers are highly powerful rays of light and they can hurt tissue - however, the lasers used in removal are specially designed to pass safely through the skin, targeting the pigmented cells at the roots of the hairs, underneath the surface, without damaging the surrounding tissue and the skin.
There are a few contra-indications, or circumstances in which a medical specialist or a qualified beautician will advise you to wait before commencing hair removal by laser. These include rashes in the body parts you wish to have removal performed on, and if you have recently had certain acne treatments.
Is laser hair removal appropriate for me?
Laser removal is suitable for the vast majority of people and most are highly satisfied with the end results.
If you want a safe, effective treatment that can leave you with smooth skin and significantly reduce hair regrowth, then you certainly should consider laser hair removal.

Cosmetic surgery has come a long way from the very first days the procedure was introduced to the public. Today having a tummy tuck is one of the most common procedures done to help both men and women feel better about their appearance. Also known as a an abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck is the removal of excess fat and skin in the abdomen and restoration of weakened or separated muscles that cause people to have a belly.
Many times the flattening of the stomach takes more than exercise and diet alone. If the extra has been caused by pregnancy, weight fluctuation, prior surgery, aging or heredity factors, the patient may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck procedure. This is not a suitable solution to lose weight or correct stretch marks. Women who are considering having children should wait to have a tummy tuck procedure until after they have their baby due to the fluctuation in weight pregnancy causes.
Because these procedures are based on a person’s perception of themselves, a tummy tuck should be done because the patient wants to look better. They should never have surgery such as this simply because someone else doesn’t like the way their stomach looks. People who are healthy, maintaining a steady weight, do not smoke, and are bothered by their physical appearance are the most likely candidates for tummy tuck surgery.
When patients decide to have this procedure, they will have an initial consultation with their doctor regarding the procedure. The doctor will collect information regarding the patient’s lifestyle, their health, and what they are expecting to get out of the surgery. Patients should be prepared to discuss things such as what medications they are on, if they partake of any substance abuse, allergies, previous surgeries and more. If the doctor approves the patient for tummy tuck surgery, they will discuss with the patient things that will need to be done prior to the surgery, such as lab testing, photographs, and medication adjustment.
All patients should be aware of some of the potential risks and complications that could occur before, during, and after the procedure. The doctor will explain all of these eventualities to the patient and will ask them to sign a medical consent form stating that you understand these risks. Tummy tuck risks include, but are not limited to: scarring; infection; skin loss; blood clots; bleeding; pain; nerve damage; loss skin; fat necrosis; and persistent swelling of the legs.
Patients who elect to have this surgery will be admitted to the hospital and prepped for surgery. This could include having general anesthesia administered before being brought in the operating suite and having any hair that may be on the area being operated on removed. The patient will then be given an anesthesia that will put them in a deep sleep during the surgery.
Once the patient is completely under sedation, the surgeon will make a horizontal incision between the navel and the hairline of the pubic area. The size of the incision will be determined by how much of the tummy needs to be tucked. The surgeon will repair damaged muscles and remove any excess material, such as skin, fat, and other tissues. If the patient has weight issues above the navel, a second incision will be made to remove and repair the body.
Some extra skin will be left and literally tucked under before the surgeon closes the incisions. This helps the incisions heal in a cleaner line and leaves the patient with a firmer abdomen and flatter stomach that is directly proportionate to your actual body type. It will take close to two weeks of healing before the patient is able to stand up straight and admire their new figure.
When patients are released from the hospital, it is advised that they follow all of their doctor’s instructions in order to care for the incisions, reduce and minimize swelling, and support the abdomen while it heals from this invasive surgery. They should make sure that they take the medications their doctor prescribes and any abnormalities in the incision should be reported to the doctor immediately.
